Cogent and R.A.B.I join forces to support British farmers

Cogent Breeding Ltd, has today announced The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (R.A.B.I), as their official charity for the year.

The charity, which was set up in 1860, supports farmers and farmworkers of all ages if they are in financial difficulty. In 2014, R.A.B.I gave out £1.9m in grants and every year, they strive to do more to support those in the industry.

The partnership comes as part of Cogent's 20 year celebrations and reinforces the company's ongoing pledge of continued support for British farmers.

Fundraising for R.A.B.I will begin as early as next week where visitors to the Cogent stand at the Royal Welsh Show, will be asked to donate £1 to the worthy cause. In addition, links to the charity's website and further details of upcoming fundraising opportunities will be a regular feature on Cogent's social media pages.

Cogent's UK General Manager, James Hallett, said: "The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution is an outstanding charity that does a huge amount of work to ensure those experiencing hardship within the industry can get back on their feet. Cogent has always been committed to backing British farmers and I am proud that we can continue that support through our new partnership with R.A.B.I."

"I would encourage all visitors to our stand at the Royal Welsh Show to donate to this extremely good cause."

Georgina Lamb, R.A.B.I Regional Manager for the North West, said: "We are delighted that Cogent has chosen to support us as their official charity this year and we wish them every success during their 20th anniversary celebrations."

"Every year, many new people ask R.A.B.I for help. Whatever the reasons, their problems are rarely of their own making and their pleas never made out of choice. Extreme weather, illness, accidents, animal disease, family breakdown and bereavement are reasons why people come to R.A.B.I. There is a perception in some public quarters that all farmers are wealthy, but this is not the case. Many live below the poverty line and most are self-employed - and only have an income if they've something to sell. Farming is a vital industry, bringing the food you eat to your table, but farmers can get into difficulties even when they do nothing wrong. When they need help, R.A.B.I is there."

Throughout the year, Cogent will be holding various fundraising events in aid of R.A.B.I. Further details will be posted on their social media pages and website
