The ones to watch at Agriscot

Three dairy farmers across the UK are celebrating this week after being named as finalists in Cogent's Best of Visions competition.

Introduced back in 1995, the Cogent Visions programme has seen the graduation of many top class sires such as Aquila Patron Lucente, Crichel Principal, Ballycairn Tiergan, Cogent Twist and Wintersell Milo; making it one of the most robust testing programmes available to the UK dairy farmer today.

Throughout the summer, farms across the country competed to show off their best of Visions daughters, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Visions programme.

However, out of all the entries received, three competitors really stood out as strong, good working cows with fantastic traits and high yields.

Cogent is delighted to announce the finalists as:

JE & J Pye & Son, Gibson Farm, Quernmore, Lancashire with a 16 year old Meadowstream Ebony Coni daughter, Quernmore Buttercup 120 EX92

Robert Buchanan, Laigh Kilpin, Ballantrae, South Ayrshire with a 10 year old Joylan Roxell daughter, Tintoview Roxell Diana EX94

A L Moore & Partners, Byley Hill Farm, Byley, Cheshire with a 9th calved Cogent Design daughter, Danevalley Design Posh EX95(7)

Cogent's Progeny Evaluator, Richard Bostock said: "Each of the cows has had a tremendous impact on their owners' herds both in terms of production on farm and in their progeny. All have calved regularly each year and are back in calf again."

The next stage of the competition will see each finalist attend AgriScot on Wednesday 18th November. It will be here, at one of the premier events in UK agriculture, where competition judges, including Mike Miller (from the Shanael Herd), will announce the overall winner and crown the top Cogent Visions daughter of the last 20 years.
