Our team visited Dylan Davies who manages a suckler herd in Llanybydder, Wales.

For the past year Dylan has successfully used AI on his suckler heifers with the aimed of producing replacement females for his herd. He began by using two of our Signature Beef Limousin sires, Mereside Lorenzo on his larger pelvic measured heifers and Tomschoice Jet on the smaller pelvic measured heifers. Mr Davies explains “out of 14 inseminated, 9 held to sexed semen on the first service, so I was very pleased with the results”.

Following this, Dylan then implemented a controlled breeding plan on his pedigree Limousin cows using another of a Signature beef sires, Netherhall Jackpot. Dylan says, "we had great success receiving 4 out of the 5 pregnancies with Jackpot sexed semen". Dylan hopes to produce quality female calves for both the showring and to breed from in the future.

Dylan explains “Before using Cogent I had never used AI before, and I have been extremely impressed with the level of service that I have received from Sian Jones and the Technicians, I work full time and without the team I wouldn’t have been able to implement the breeding programme that I have done”.

Looking into the future Mr Davies is hoping to expand his herd by continuing to use sexed semen.
