We are very pleased to welcome Richard Lapthorne to our team, in the role of a Breeding Advisor in Yorkshire. Richard lives near Ripon in North Yorkshire and has worked in farming since the age of 11, when he started working on a neighbouring farmer at the weekends and during school holidays. After leaving school, he took up a 3 year ATB apprenticeship with the same farmer, on a tradition mixed farm, which gave him a great background in Agriculture. Subsequently, Richard began his long association with dairy cattle, on a 120 cow unit in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. After 15 years there, he took up a position with the pedigree Dalesend Herd and was there for 10 years, until the farm and herd was sold. At this point, he decided not to continue milking cows and instead pursued his growing interest in cattle lameness, setting up a foot trimming and mobility service in partnership with the Bishopton Vet Group. Richard is also qualified as category 1 foot trimmer and mobility scorer. He most recently finished a position at Bio-Genesys as a Technical Sales Manager, and is looking forward to starting a new challenge at Cogent.
