December 2024 Proof Update - Speciality Breeds

Cogent is thrilled to announce the latest genetic evaluations for December 2024, highlighting some exciting results in the Speciality Breeds sector. These updates underscore our commitment to providing dairy farmers with top-tier genetic solutions that enhance herd productivity and profitability.

British Friesian: Leading the Way

Our British Friesian offering continues to be a leader in the marketplace with five sires in the top ten PLI (Profitable Lifetime Index) rankings. Notably Bankhouse Distinction remains our No.1 Sire (£297 PLI) whilst our other August release Newbarton Rady For It had an exceptional day climbing the rankings at £256 PLI.

Cogent is unmatched in production for the British Friesian breed offering three of the top five sires for production with Ready For It leading the way with an outstanding 368kgs Milk, this is further enhanced with 33.4kgs combined Fat and Protein, making him comfortably the No.1 CFP Bull. He is joined by Jigsaw and Patriot Red in the top five, highlighting Cogent’s commitment to offering elite genetics to improve production efficiency.

In terms of fertility, three of the top five sires are from Cogent with Judd the highest ranking at 4 whilst Carlyon and Jake follow him closely. Our bulls also continue to excel for longevity with Mint, Distinction and Jake amongst the top five for Lifespan.

Finally, our offering for confirmation traits continues to strengthen and is unmatched within the breed with Cogent dominating the rankings. All seven of the top Legs and Feet bulls can call Cogent home with Inch Mint (1.96) leading the way in this particular trait. Cogent sires also occupy four of the top five spaces for Mammary with Braveheart, Mint, Garfield Red and Judd in those spaces. Type rankings also look strong with 4 of the top 5 for Type also calling Cogent home with Mint the No.1 Sire here at 1.66. Cogent’s British Friesian offering continues to go from strength to strength further highlighting our commitment to offering world leading genetic solutions to every farmer in the UK.

Ayrshires & Scandinavian Reds: Impressive Performers

In the Ayrshire category, Inch Terry has emerged as the No.1 Milk Bull with an outstanding 611kg production. Meanwhile, Whinnow Voltage is recognized as the most complete Scandinavian Red Bull on the market. With a PLI of £466, Voltage offers a balanced genetic profile with high fertility (9.1), significant combined fat and protein (45.6kg), a lifespan of 61 days, and a type score of 0.8.

Jersey Breed: Leading in Production and Type

Cogent's Jersey offering remains strong with a commitment to UK bred sires which no other company can boast, our focus on producing UK sires for UK herds is yielding results with Addiction still one of the most balanced sires on the market having increased £20 PLI to £283 PLI, this coupled with 4.7 Fertility Index, 246kgs Milk, 1.7 Type and 1.9 Mammary makes him one of the most complete sires on the market today and underpin his continued popularity.

Outside of this, Cogent have had an outstanding day in the production rankings with World Classic comfortably the No.1 sire for Combined Fat and Protein at 55.1kgs whilst also ranking second for Milk production at 596kgs. Two other bulls of note are two of our latest releases Erling and Helios who remain strong in the rankings whilst also both ranking in the top 5 for Lifespan, Erling also boasts a great Fertility Index at 6.7.

Cogent’s Jersey offering has always been strong for confirmation traits and this proof run is no different with the top three mammary bulls is Laspada, Map and Addiction whilst the same 3 bulls also appear in the top 5 Type Merit sires, making these 3 the go to sires for customers looking to protect for confirmation.

Finally an exciting outcome of the latest proof has been the proof of Sexing Chrome Zodi, now a proven sire, Zodi has come through with a daughter proven PLI of £241, with 421kgs Milk, 33.1kgs CFP, 1.3 Mammary and 1.1 Type. This further strengthens Zodi’s son Helios and underlines our commitment to offering Jersey customers a robust genetic portfolio that continues to deliver results.
