Cogent is proud to launch the first dairy creation programme of its kind in Northern Ireland, a major step forward in our commitment to the region’s dairy farmers and breeding future.
At a time of change in the market, we believe it’s more important than ever to provide Northern Ireland with stability, investment, and access to world-class genetics. This new programme means the genetics you want and need will be created right here in NI, shaped by local expertise and designed for local conditions.
Created in NI. Shipped to the World.
From this year, Cogent bulls will be created, born, and housed entirely in Northern Ireland. From there, they’ll supply not only local farms but also more than 70 markets worldwide, showcasing NI genetics on the global stage.
As part of this launch, 500 embryos will be implanted across our partner farm network in Northern Ireland. These embryos – produced from elite animals in Northern Ireland, Great Britain, and the US – will form the foundation of this exciting new breeding programme.
We’re delivering this with the support of our partners in the region, whose skill in embryo creation, bull management, and production will play a key role in making this programme a success.
Designed for NI Farmers
Northern Ireland’s milk market is unique, with its A+B–C pricing structure placing greater emphasis on milk components than many other regions. Our new creation programme is focused on delivering genetics tailored to these market needs, helping farmers maximise efficiency and profitability.
Housing bulls locally also means:
- Immediate availability of semen inventory
- Fast, reliable local distribution through AI Services
- Genetics developed in NI, for NI farmers
A Framework for the future
This programme also creates a clear framework for Cogent to work with additional breeders and partners across both Ireland and Northern Ireland on producing the next generation of trait leaders. By combining local insight with Cogent’s global breeding expertise, we can continue to raise the bar for genetic progress in the region.
A Long-Term Commitment
This programme represents more than just a new way of working, it’s a long-term investment in Northern Ireland’s dairy industry. By creating, housing, and distributing locally – and by working closely with our partner farm network – we’re building stronger connections with farmers while delivering the right genetics, at the right time, for the right market.
At Cogent, we’re here to support NI dairy farmers – today and for the future.
